Making Dreams into Reality: Niro Åhman’s Life at the UI Frontier

As a Frontend Developer at Framery, Niro Åhman’s work lives front and center in some of the most visible interfaces in Framery’s smart office solutions.

Niro Åhman might joke about being a “basement dweller,” but his work is far from hidden. As a Frontend Developer at Framery, his work lives front and center in some of the most visible interfaces in Framery’s smart office solutions. His implementations shape how users interact with smart displays, tablets, and web-based tools used in workplaces around the world.

But his path into visibility didn’t start in the spotlight.

From kernel drivers to customer interfaces

Niro’s background is rooted in embedded systems, but after a stint working on kernel drivers, he felt the pull of higher-level development. He found himself building customer-facing tools in security and healthcare—places where interface and experience are key.

“After a short stint with kernel drivers I switched to a higher level, all the way to the customer-facing frontends of security and healthcare systems.”

When Framery was building a new tech team, the choice to join came easily. “I’d heard good things about the culture from people I knew, and Framery was already well-known around Tampere—so when the opportunity came, it was a no-brainer.”

That was nearly three years ago. Since then, he’s been quietly but steadily turning “pretty designs into reality.”

Coffee, code, and context

Niro’s days start how many great ones do: with coffee. From there, he checks in and makes sure everything is running smoothly—scanning for anything in the wild that needs debugging. After that, it’s heads-down time, coding and validating new features for the Room Display interface or gearing up for Framery’s newest software experience: Space Overview.

His work happens across two speeds: intense collaboration during planning and design phases, and deep, focused development once the team has clarity. “During active development, we’d do dailies twice a week just to stay synced. But most of the work lives in the rhythm of the kanban board—pick a ticket, test in the browser, run it on the tablet, repeat.”

It’s not just UI for UI’s sake—every bit of it is tied to the broader Smart Office experience Framery is building. That sense of impact keeps Niro motivated.

“You’re building things that will be used globally, in all kinds of companies. It’s cool to think about.”

What makes Framery feel different

“For me, it’s the overall feeling of being at the Factory every time I come into the office. And the Core lunches are awesome. It’s definitely a unique atmosphere.”

On the tech side, the scale of impact is something he finds energizing. “From the software point of view, it’s motivating to think how it’s used in various environments and how that enables the need to create secure and robust code.”

He’s also enjoyed watching the team take shape. “It’s also been fun seeing this small and new software team form and find ways of working that suit it best almost from the get-go.”

Looking ahead

With the launch of Space Overview, Framery’s Smart Office Solutions have taken another step forward. The new product gives workplaces a clear, real-time view of how meeting spaces are used, helping teams make smarter decisions about how they collaborate and plan their day.

For Niro, it’s been exciting to see his work go live in products that are now shaping everyday office experiences. Alongside Room Display, Space Overview adds to a growing digital layer that complements Framery’s smart pods.

“Our products now go well beyond the physical pod. We’re creating digital tools that help offices run smoother and smarter, and it feels great to see that in use.”

As Framery’s Smart Office portfolio expands, Niro continues to impact complex systems—always refining, building, and learning. His contributions are shaping how teams organize, collaborate, and get work done in modern offices everywhere.

And that’s exactly the kind of impact that makes the work meaningful.
