The Nevada State Council on Libraries and Literacy launched the Soundproof Study Pod Initiative in 2024 to help libraries throughout the state provide their users with private, distraction-free workspaces. Funded by a federal Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the initiative was a direct response to the growing need for dedicated spaces that support deep focus, calls, virtual meetings, and discussions that open layouts of libraries cannot provide.
A total of 23 high school, university, and public libraries took advantage of the initiative from the Nevada State Library, resulting in the distribution of 34 soundproof pods to communities throughout the state.
The Soundproof Study Pod Initiative
Through the Statewide Initiative to Build Library Capacity, the Nevada State Library set a goal “to help libraries build their capacity to meet the evolving work and study needs of their service populations.” The program focused on providing one-person soundproof pods as a way to incorporate dedicated individual workspaces without requiring construction or renovation.
The Nevada State Library specifically recommended Framery One, citing the pod’s A-Class soundproofing, advanced lighting and ventilation, and compact footprint. Combined with the ability to connect with existing scheduling calendars, an available movability kit for easy repositioning, and the collection of anonymous usage data, Framery One is particularly effective for library and educational environments.
“All participating libraries will benefit from increased capacity to provide their users with a private, soundproof space that may be used for solitary and focused work, communications, and study.”

Reducing noise distractions in high schools
Throughout Nevada, four high schools added study pods to their libraries to provide high-quality “quiet spots” for students to complete intensive homework and attend virtual lessons. The decision to incorporate soundproof pods was driven by feedback from students and faculty, who identified a growing need for quiet study areas amid increasing library traffic.
“Students with a sensitivity to noise have found the study pod invaluable.”

Traditionally, high school campuses are high-stimulus environments where constant noise and foot traffic can hinder concentration. The study pods have become increasingly valuable for students on these campuses, especially those particularly sensitive to noise, who rely on them for online meetings, video recordings, and test-taking.
Supporting academics in Universities
Through the initiative, five academic libraries were able to supply soundproof pods to support academics and help students prepare for their careers. Beyond a peaceful space for studying, the pods clearly demonstrate an institutional commitment to student support, serving as a space where students conduct job interviews and join meetings in a professional setting.
“The Framery pods have been a massive boon for students that need a quiet, private space to work. They have been great for video meetings as well as therapy sessions.”
Truckee Meadows Community College
The University of Nevada Las Vegas proudly features their Framery “study pods” on their University Library website. At Western Nevada College, the pods have become a regular feature during campus tours, serving as a powerful recruitment tool for prospective students. In addition to the Framery One pods provided by the LSTA grant, Truckee Meadows Community College added the ADA compliant Framery Four Accessible to ensure equitable access to privacy on campus.
Providing privacy in public libraries
A network of 13 public libraries across Nevada implemented soundproof pods to serve their local communities with long-requested private study spaces. The Study Pod Initiative has transformed these libraries into a “third space” with quiet, focused environments that support a wide range of personal and professional tasks.
“Whether you’re working on a project, studying, or prepping for a virtual meeting, our new study pods are here to help you focus.”

The study pods have quickly become a favorite for library patrons throughout Nevada, helping libraries provide a more complete service for their local communities. In addition to using the pods for as dedicated workspaces, visitors have used the pods for online interviews, preparing speeches, and even as creative studios to record podcasts and YouTube videos.

A statewide investment in focus
The Soundproof Study Pod Initiative has changed the way that Nevada libraries are able to support their communities. Beyond privacy, the study pods allow libraries to offer better resources, and provide more opportunities for students and patrons to succeed in high-stimulus environments.
“Given our student-centric mission, we recognized the pods would provide the quiet, individual space our users need.”

The statewide investment ensures that Nevada’s libraries remain at the forefront of modern learning, providing the specialized environments required for focus and productivity in a noisy world.
