Framery opens UK hub, cutting delivery times from four weeks to five days

Restocking in full loads lowers the shipping costs.

Framery is opening a UK distribution hub in Bourne, Lincolnshire, in November. Pods in stock at the hub will be delivered across mainland UK within five days of ordering. Until now, delivery to the UK has taken more than four weeks.

Office space in the UK turns over quickly. Leases have been getting shorter, and each move or refit runs to a fixed date.

The pods are made in Tampere, as before. What changes is how they travel. Instead of crossing to the UK after a customer orders, they cross in advance and wait in Bourne. Customs is cleared on fewer, larger shipments that restock the hub, so no order waits at the border.

Shipping into the UK is also costly. Because of the trade imbalance between the European Union and the UK, more freight goes into the country than comes out, so trucks often leave empty, and each delivery has to pay for the journey back. Restocking the hub in full loads spreads that cost over more pods.

Bourne lies on the route from Immingham, where Framery’s shipments arrive, to the London area, where most of its UK deliveries go. The hub will also serve UK customers of Framery Subscribed.

The hub follows the expansion of Framery’s London presence in May, when it opened a new flagship showroom at 63 Goswell Road in Clerkenwell. Both are in line with Framery’s long-term growth strategy, in which the UK is a key market.
